According to Wowpedia, you can only "find" one Epic-quality item PER CHARACTER (sauce). That being the case, you might want to restrict your digging if you REALLY want a particular item. Here's a quick list:

Dwarf:
[Staff of Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan] i359 DPS caster staff. Equivalent to raid reward?

Fossils:
[Fossilized Raptor] Awesome looking mount (Colt’s got one)

Nelf:
[Queen Azshara's Dressing Gown]: Toy – summons fountain of knowledge??
[Wisp Amulet]: Toy – turns you into a wisp for 20s
[Tyrande's Favorite Doll]: i359 caster trinket -- +Int and on-use mana return

Troll:
[Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Worlds]: Drool. I359 2h sword. 374 Str!

Orc:
[Headdress of the First Shaman]: Level 70 Shaman headdress.

Vrykul:
[Nifflevar Bearded Axe]: Level 80 (i226) rogue weapon

Nerubian:
[Blessing of the Old God]: Toy
[Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron]: Toy

Tol’vir
[Crawling Claw]: Pet
[Pendant of the Scarab Storm]: Toy (summons a crowd of “peaceful scarabs”)
[Ring of the Boy Emperor]: i359 caster ring.
[Scepter of Azj'Aqir]: A mount, apparently!
[Scimitar of the Sirocco]: i359 1H sword. For DW Frost DKs and SMF Warriors, presumably. EDIT: And DW Unholy DKs!
[Staff of Ammunae]: i359 Healing caster staff (lots of spirit)

So...if you have the mount or a pet, you can`t get one of the shiny items like the staff?

Edit; awesome list by the way, thanks for making it!

It's not necessarily typical for me to say things like that, but keep in mind that an item with mindblowing stats will probably be obsolete at the latest when the second raid tier is released - but a silly fun plaything is forever Smile

I always understood the restriction to be that you can only get one of each supershiny item, like you won't get two Zin'rokhs no matter how much you dig, but you can complete the full set of blues and purples otherwise. I mean, irc, Colt has both miniraptor and the full-grown version? Shouldn't they cancel each other out if it was just "one supershiny per character ever"?

Oh, and apprently the much coveted mount recipe comes from Tol'vir canopic jars.

*PS: Unholy is also DW this patch. ^^

Daine's right I believe. The wording is:
"You will never get a rare artifact more than once per character. "
but I think what they mean is you can only get any one specific rare artifact once per character. At least I hope so. I've found about 5 rares so far, but only one Purple.

An important thing to remember is that you will find all the items of a race before you start getting repeats. Therefore if you continue to dig dwarf sites (my current plan), then you will eventually get the amazing raid level staff. There are a total of 31 different dwarf artifacts, and therefore at the worst you will have to make 30 dwarven items before you get to start building the staff, assuming you have the appropriate skill level.

This all may be a little bit skewed by a digger's archaeology skill level. For example, I am currently on my second run through the common Troll artifacts, and have not seen Zin'rokh, Destroyer of worlds, the rare sword. However that needs a skill of 450, which I've only just reached. I am assuming that this item is automatically added to my "now available to dig up at Troll dig sites" list, and before I start through the troll common artifacts for the third time, it will appear. Hopefully.

You may also like to take note that:
[Staff of Sorcerer-Thane Thaurissan]
[Queen Azshara's Dressing Gown]
[Tyrande's Favorite Doll]
[Headdress of the First Shaman]
[Nifflevar Bearded Axe]
[Crawling Claw]
[Pendant of the Scarab Storm]
[Ring of the Boy Emperor]
[Scimitar of the Sirocco]
& [Staff of Ammunae]
all appear currently to be Bind to Account

Hmm, I do hope that's the case, Colt, re: the one *copy* per character rather than one *item* per character notion.

Rem: You're right of course -- today's hard'n'heavy is tomorrow's easy listening, after all. That said, if you *were* to find a useful 359 weapon I suspect that would put you in good shape for all of normal mode raiding until the first content patch -- i.e. a good while. Which would correspondingly mean I could ninja any decent loot drops Wink

Daine: You know, I had assumed DW Unholy was a non-starter, but a moment's quick research says that it's entirely (if perhaps surprisingly) viable. Colour me excited -- I quite fancy Unholy as Tremble's DPS spec for the ghouls'n'giggles aspect but was casting longing looks at DW frost as I do, after all, already have a 2h-melee dps. Happy days.

Ack, my brain is too scrambled up to grasp this. *hides*

So, I can get one epicpurplepinky item per character (like the sword Ano is drooling about). This means that if I do find the sword say on Sherise, and I send it to Aylera, I can then dig up yet another epicpurplepinky item on Sherise? OR does it mean that since Sherise has found the sword, she will never find another epic again?

Also, does it mean I can still get all the pretty rareblues like the pets and trinkets in addition to the one epicpurplepinky on any character?

Oh noes, too much thinking...anyhow...Since I have a billion alts, and if it is so that they can only find ONE epic item each, doesn`t this mean that technically I can find all the epics across my characters?

I'm still not entirely sure how the one-item-per-character thing will work out, but it *does* (I think) mean that you could grab a [Scimitar of the Sirocco] on Sherise and send it to Aylera, and then grab another one on Illandera and send it to Aylera and then do epic DW dps.

Probably*.

I have dug up 1 purple and 4 or 5 blues so far, so blues are definately available as more than one per Character.

Not sure if you Archaeologists have seen this, but... a pretty good indicator on where to find the various dig sites!

Daine mentioned in gchat last night that one of the archeology items she's got to piece together is a scramaseax. I'm really impressed with this - someone knows their archeology terms! A seax, or scramaseax is the Old English for a knife!

After reading trough a billion forums and blogs, I have come to the conclusion that it is possible to find all the rares and epics on the same character. You just can`t get more than one copy (as in, when you find the 2h sword, you wont find it again). And if you happen to start on the research for, say, the Dwarven epic staff, you HAVE to finish the research on that one before the next one becomes even available. And completing one takes alot of time, you need special artifacts for it apparently.

But of course, you all knew this. Very Happy I`m just late!

Not sure about epics, but you can definitely have more than one blue in the works at the same time, as well as blues + epic. And you don't need any special artefact fragments, you piece them together out of the same fragments you use for common stuff; however, there are "keystone" pieces as well which you can put in their slots to reduce the amount of total fragments needed, which sure helps to save your mental balance on those 150 piece items.

So far I've dug up the fossil pet + mount, BoA hat, BoA agi sword, and a few toys. ^^ Unfortunately, the site generator is evil and knows what you don't need/want and tosses out exactly those sites! I'm getting fewer dwarf sites than ever, now that I'm on the hunt for that staff. Very Happy

*snicker* So true. And I hate that there is no 100% certain "slam dunk" information out there about this. Arrgh. But one of the blogs I came across suggested that the owner had 3 of the epic items on one character.
