NaNoWriMo - a crazy concept
That's National Novel Writing Month to those who've not heard about it.
We talked a bit about it last night. Basically it's the concept that you write a complete novel of 50,000 during the month of November. It's a lot of hard work, but a lot of fun too. I've managed to complete it once, each year afterwards gave me issues one way or another, change of circumstance, job etc! For those who are interested the site is here.

I wasn't going to, but I'm rethinking, if a job doesn't fall into my lap, I might well. So the only question that remains is what to write. I've got plans for a story, that I've had for ages, a story for a friend's daughter. A story about ducks and pirates. The other idea is something very silly indeed and I've not even got half of the concept sketched out yet.

I'm thinking of going for it. I have been planning a fantasy novel for a few eyars now, and it's only shyness keeping me back (I can't bear letting people read my stuff!). I once wrote a Doctor Who novel, but it got lost a long time ago.
Re: NaNoWriMo - a crazy concept
Hehe, I hear you, sometimes I feel horribly shy about my writing - but no-one has EVER read my completed one!
Re: NaNoWriMo - a crazy concept
Why feel shy?
You can show it to your other half as a test read once it's done. They'll be able to tell you if it's shareable with anyone else without mortally offending you (although if *I* were them, I'd probably do it by telephone to be on the safe side).
Put it up on a fiction site under a new(ish) pseudonym. Fanfiction.net would be a good place for the Dr. Who stuff. If people like it, they'll say, and if they don't, well no-one knows it's you

For me, I know I feel shy because I pour so much into it when I'm writing, it's my creation, it's a part of me, and well...showing it to someone's like taking all your mental clothes off. You feel totally exposed. Which for me is worse than being simply physically exposed.
There are some things I don't mind revealing, I've shared a fairytale with friends and someone who works as an editor in a media company, who thought it was publishable. But that was only because it came to me in a dream, and didn't feel fully mine. But with NaNoWriMo, my mind goes all over the place, and sometimes I have characters' actions surprise even me, and that's more about things coming out from my own subconscious.
If I DO write Swashduckling though, then that I will be editing and re-editing to make sure I've got something workable, and I'll go from there with what I do with it.

The worst that could happen is I read it drunk... and think Ano wrote it... backwards...
Go for it, I have a sneaky suspicion the both of you would be awesome!
