The Music Room.

Following one or two (or more!) conversations with Ano, I figured we really ought to have a thread for this too....

So uh.....I like a lot of music, most types although I don't do much in the way of jazz or reggae. I've been known to purchase Kate Rusby and NIN at the same time. I adore Depeche Mode (they can do no wrong!), love Transglobal Underground, Juno Reactor, ASP, have recently gotten into De/vision and Ano has just introduced me to Covenant and VNV Nation. I'm also a complete sucker for old goth and 80s music. Folkwise I'm a fan of Nancy Kerr and James Fagan, they're a fab couple and very talented, as well as Eliza Carthy (she's great live!) and Dr Faustus.

I've got a collection of bellydance and more eastern sounding stuff, I adore Azam Ali's voice - she's the female vocalist from the 300 soundtrack, and has worked with Vas and done some rather mellow but amazing solo stuff. I guess that's what happens when you fall for Ofra Haza's voice on the 90s version of Temple of Love....!

When I'm not listening to our eclectic mix of stuff, I'm generally cruising Spotify or www.di.fm (mostly the Future Synthpop stuff)

I'm also going to take this chance to pimp some friends, who were supporting KMFDM on the UK leg of their tour and are supporting Rotersand later this year. Because they're very talented, stylish, and have equal amounts of talent and passion. Name of the band is Alterred whose ep, Bind Until It Breaks is out on quite a few places, I've found it on Spotify (although we've bought and downloaded it too).

Similar here too. I like old school metal and goth mainly, but also have plenty of bleepy shite ebm, industrial and a bit of folk, middle age and even some general alternative. Got loads of classical too.

Fave band ever has to be Fields of the Nephilim, followed by Love & Rockets, The Cult (up to when they did Fire Woman then it went downhill), LA Guns, D.A.D, Junkyard & Georgia Sattelites.

For the stuff mentioned so far, Covenant are brilliant, they really put on a show. Unlike VNV Nation who sound good on CD and sound good on CD when they pretend to be live. Rotersand are great on CD but having seen them twice now the frontman needs a personality implant as he's the dullest person ever when it comes to the banter between songs. To be fair actually the dullest frontman award must really go the Queensryche who spent 20 minutes sending the audience to sleep between each song. (Felt like that anyway!)

There's not much I dislike, probably most Jazz, the chart urban shite stuff that gets called R&B but has neither rhythm or blue and tedious waily indie rock - Coldplay, Travis and all the like should be banned from going within 50 feet of a musical instrument.

So...been a while since I've seen any live music. We went to see CW Stoneking and yea gods he was awesome. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but following a dance three of us did to Tom Wait's Little Drop of Poison, I'd heard some of his stuff, totally adored his 1920s/30s style blues, and thus squeed mightily to see he was playing a small venue in Cardiff last night. So we went - and OMG! He's incredible live! The band played a lot of stuff which we could only describe as New Orleans/Louisiana/Delta blues. CW Stoneking also has an amazing line in stage banter and stories, and I will never hear the word "squat" again without giggling!

Favourite track of the night was The Love Me or Die which I was listening to thinking, "Oooh, we can dance to this....I'm sure of it!" only to turn around to one of my other friends who immediately said "We should do a dance to this, I was choreographing it as they were playing!" Win!

Second favourite was Don't Go Dancing Down The Darktown Strutter's Ball

Support was a highly energetic Brownbird Rudy Relic, one man, his kazoo and guitar, a pair of the most awesome shoes ever, oiled back hair and far too much energy in one man! He was great! You can see what he was like here.
